9 Day Luxury Uganda Gorilla Safari

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where your private representative will welcome you to Uganda. After clearing immigration and collecting your luggage, transfer to a selected luxury hotel in Entebbe.

The remainder of the day is intentionally relaxed. After a long international flight, having a comfortable first night in Entebbe allows you to begin the safari refreshed. A stop around the Equator can be arranged for photographs, refreshments and shopping for quality Ugandan crafts. Lunch is served at a carefully selected restaurant or lodge along the route. Rather than driving directly to Bwindi in one exhausting day, this nine-day itinerary allows an intermediate overnight stay.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before continuing toward Uganda’s southwestern highlands. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as rolling countryside gives way to terraced hills, valleys and mountain landscapes. Continue toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, passing through some of Uganda’s most attractive rural scenery. Depending on the selected itinerary, you may arrive in the gorilla region in the afternoon and have time to settle into your lodge.

Today is deliberately kept free of the main gorilla trek. One of the advantages of a nine-day luxury itinerary is that you can arrive in Bwindi well before trekking day rather than reaching the region late in the evening and immediately heading into the forest the following morning.

Community visits can introduce you to local crafts, farming, traditional practices and conservation-linked enterprises.

Today is the centerpiece of your 9 Day Luxury Uganda Gorilla Safari. Wake early and enjoy breakfast before transferring to the appropriate Uganda Wildlife Authority briefing center. Park officials explain the trekking rules, safety procedures and conservation guidelines.

You will then be assigned to a habituated gorilla family and join your ranger guides and trackers. Bwindi’s rainforest can be physically demanding. Trails may cross steep slopes and muddy areas, particularly after rainfall.

Mountain gorillas move freely, so the time required to locate your assigned family can vary considerably. Hiring a porter is strongly recommended. In addition to carrying your daypack, a porter can provide assistance on difficult terrain.

When trackers locate the gorillas, approach quietly under the direction of your ranger. Standard gorilla trekking normally allows visitors up to one hour with the habituated family. This extraordinary hour can produce some of Africa’s most memorable wildlife moments.

You may watch an enormous silverback feeding or resting, females caring for infants and juveniles climbing or playing nearby. The experience is intimate but carefully regulated to protect the animals. Photography is permitted, but flash should not be used.
