Day 01
Arrival in Kigali
Arrive at Kigali International Airport, where your private guide welcomes you to Rwanda. Transfer to your selected hotel and settle in. Depending on your arrival time, you can spend the remainder of the day relaxing or begin exploring Kigali.
Rwanda's capital is clean, hilly and easy to incorporate into the beginning or end of a safari. Guests arriving early may choose a city orientation or dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Kigali.

Kigali City Experience – Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, explore selected Kigali attractions. A city tour can include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, cultural centers, art galleries or local markets according to your interests. Afterward, leave Kigali and travel north toward Volcanoes National Park.
The scenic drive passes through Rwanda's characteristic rolling hills and productive agricultural countryside. As you approach Musanze, the massive peaks of the Virunga Mountains begin to dominate the skyline. Arrive at your lodge, check in and prepare for the following morning's gorilla trek.

Day 03
Mountain Gorilla Trekking
Today is one of the major highlights of the 7 Day Rwanda Gorilla & Wildlife Safari. After an early breakfast, drive to the designated gorilla trekking briefing point. Park officials explain rules designed to protect both visitors and gorillas.
You will then be assigned to a habituated gorilla family and enter the forest with guides and trackers.
Gorilla Trekking Experience
The trek varies in length depending on the gorillas' location. Mountain gorillas move freely throughout their habitat, so there is no fixed route or trekking duration. Trails can be wet, steep and muddy.
A porter is highly recommended to carry personal equipment and assist where terrain becomes challenging. When the trackers locate your gorilla family, follow the guide's instructions as you approach. The encounter provides a remarkable opportunity to watch mountain gorillas behaving naturally.

Day 04
Optional Golden Monkey Experience – Return Toward Kigali
After breakfast, you can undertake an optional golden monkey tracking experience before leaving the Virunga region. Golden monkeys inhabit the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park and provide a very different primate experience from gorilla trekking. They are considerably smaller, faster and more energetic.
Alternatively, you may choose a cultural activity or simply enjoy a relaxed morning at your lodge. Later, begin the journey back toward Kigali or another strategically selected overnight location depending on the preferred routing toward Akagera National Park.
This flexible day prevents the itinerary from becoming unnecessarily rushed.

Day 05
Transfer to Akagera National Park – Afternoon Wildlife Viewing
After breakfast, continue east toward Akagera National Park. The landscape changes as you leave Rwanda's mountainous regions and approach the warmer eastern savannah. Arrive at Akagera and begin your introduction to Rwanda's classic safari environment.
Depending on arrival time, undertake an afternoon game drive. Your guide will search for wildlife across woodland, open plains and areas near water. Possible sightings include giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, elephants, antelopes, warthogs and numerous bird species.
Arrive at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Full-Day Akagera National Park Safari
Spend a full day exploring Akagera National Park. An early start increases the amount of time available for wildlife viewing. The park's varied terrain makes each game drive interesting.
