Day 14
Return to Entebbe
After breakfast, drive toward Entebbe. Stop around the Equator where time permits. Continue to Entebbe International Airport for departure.
Your 14 Day Uganda Big Five & Gorilla Safari concludes after two weeks of exceptional wildlife diversity.
Uganda’s Big Five
The traditional Big Five are lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Uganda provides opportunities to encounter all five, although they occur in different conservation areas. Because wildlife is free-ranging, seeing every species cannot be promised.
A safari should be approached as an opportunity to observe natural wildlife behavior rather than a guaranteed checklist.
Why Add Mountain Gorillas?
The gorilla trek provides a completely different wildlife experience from game drives. Big mammals are generally viewed from a vehicle or boat. In Bwindi, you walk through rainforest and approach a specific gorilla family with trackers.
The contrast makes Uganda particularly appealing for travelers seeking variety.
Main Destination: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Good to Know
Practical notes on timing, permits, routes and extensions for this safari.
Porters are strongly recommended.
Once the family is found, standard gorilla trekking normally allows up to one hour of viewing. Watch silverbacks, adult females, juveniles and infants as they continue their natural routines. After the encounter, trek back to the trailhead and return to your lodge.
Gorilla Trekking Permit
A valid permit is essential for every gorilla trekker. Permits correspond to specific dates and trekking areas. Once your permit is confirmed, accommodation can be selected near the appropriate starting point.
What to Pack
Pack lightweight safari clothing, binoculars, sunscreen and camera equipment for game drives. For gorilla trekking, bring sturdy hiking boots, long trousers, long sleeves, gloves, insect repellent and a waterproof jacket. A fleece can be useful in the cooler southwestern highlands.
Best Time to Travel
The itinerary operates throughout the year. June through September and December through February are popular because conditions tend to be comparatively dry. Green-season travel can provide lush scenery and excellent photography.
