11 Day Uganda Gorilla & Wildlife Safari

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where your safari representative will welcome you to Uganda. After completing immigration and collecting your luggage, transfer to your hotel in Entebbe. The first day is deliberately relaxed so you can recover after your international journey.

Depending on arrival time, optional Entebbe activities can be arranged. Your guide will review the safari program and explain the road journey, wildlife activities and equipment required for mountain gorilla trekking.

After breakfast, meet your driver-guide and begin traveling toward western Uganda. The journey takes you through agricultural countryside, regional towns and increasingly scenic landscapes. Stop for lunch along the route.

The eleven-day format allows the journey to be divided comfortably rather than requiring very long transfers every day. Arrive at your selected lodge in the afternoon or evening and enjoy time to relax.

After breakfast, continue toward Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s best-known wildlife destinations. The park occupies a spectacular section of the Albertine Rift and protects savannah, wetlands, lakes, woodland and crater landscapes. After entering the park, begin your first game-viewing drive.

Possible sightings include African elephants, Cape buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs and baboons. Lions inhabit the park and may sometimes be observed around areas where antelopes gather. Continue to your lodge for dinner.

Wake early for a morning game drive. The cooler hours around sunrise are often rewarding because many animals are active before temperatures rise. Your guide will explore suitable wildlife-viewing tracks while searching for elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and predators.

Lions are among the most sought-after sightings, while leopards and spotted hyenas are present but more elusive. Return for breakfast or lunch. In the afternoon, proceed to the Kazinga Channel for a boat safari.

The channel links Lake George and Lake Edward and supports impressive concentrations of wildlife. Large groups of hippos are commonly seen, while Nile crocodiles may rest along the banks. Elephants and buffaloes sometimes approach the water to drink.

Birdwatchers will also find the cruise exceptionally rewarding. Return to your lodge in the evening.

Today gives you another opportunity to explore Queen Elizabeth National Park. A second or third game drive can produce completely different sightings because wildlife movements change continuously. Your guide may explore areas not visited previously, focusing on species of particular interest.

Photographers can spend more time at productive sightings rather than rushing through the park. Depending on the confirmed itinerary, you may also enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the lodge or add another optional activity. This additional time is one of the benefits of choosing an eleven-day safari.

After breakfast, begin the journey south toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Depending on your confirmed gorilla trekking sector, travel through the Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Ishasha is famous for its tree-climbing lions.

Although sightings are never guaranteed, lions can sometimes be seen resting in the branches of large fig trees. The area also supports topis, elephants, buffaloes and Uganda kobs. Continue toward the southwestern highlands.

The scenery gradually changes from open savannah to forested mountains and cultivated hills. Arrive at your lodge near the correct gorilla trekking sector.

Today is the defining experience of your 11 Day Uganda Gorilla & Wildlife Safari. Wake early and enjoy breakfast before transferring to the relevant Uganda Wildlife Authority briefing center. Rangers explain trekking procedures, safety rules and the conservation guidelines visitors must follow.

You will then be assigned to a habituated gorilla family. Enter the rainforest with experienced ranger guides and trackers. Bwindi’s terrain can be steep and muddy, and trekking duration varies because the gorillas move naturally through their territory.

Some groups may locate their family relatively quickly, while others may trek for several hours. Hiring a porter is highly recommended.

After gorilla trekking, enjoy a more relaxed day in the Bwindi region. Depending on your interests, participate in an optional community visit, birding excursion or nature walk. Community tourism offers insight into life around the national park and the connection between conservation and local livelihoods.

Nature enthusiasts can focus on Bwindi’s birds, butterflies and remarkable forest vegetation. Alternatively, spend the day resting at your lodge. The additional day means you can appreciate Bwindi beyond the gorilla trek itself.

After breakfast, leave Bwindi and travel through the scenic southwestern highlands. Depending on your customized itinerary, an overnight stay can be arranged near a lake or another attractive location. The journey provides opportunities to appreciate terraced hills, villages and rural landscapes at a relaxed pace.

Lunch is arranged en route. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

After breakfast, begin traveling toward central Uganda. The eleven-day schedule allows the long return journey to be divided over two days. Stop for lunch and refreshments as you travel through farming districts and regional towns.

Arrive at your overnight accommodation later in the day. Spend your final safari evening relaxing.

Enjoy breakfast before completing the final journey to Entebbe. Where your international flight timing permits, stop around the Equator for photographs and souvenir shopping. Continue to Entebbe International Airport for your departure.
