11 Day Best of Uganda Safari

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport and meet your safari representative after completing immigration formalities. Transfer to your hotel in Entebbe. The first day is intentionally relaxed, allowing you to recover from your international journey before beginning the safari.

Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy the hotel facilities or participate in an optional activity around Entebbe. Your guide will provide a detailed briefing about the route, driving conditions and major activities ahead.

After breakfast, meet your private driver-guide and begin the journey toward western Uganda. Travel through changing countryside as the urban areas surrounding Kampala and Entebbe give way to farming communities and rural landscapes.

A stop can be made around the Equator for photographs, refreshments and locally made crafts. Continue toward your selected overnight destination. Lunch will be arranged along the route.

The eleven-day itinerary allows the journey to be divided comfortably, giving you time to enjoy the scenery rather than simply spending the entire day rushing toward the next attraction.

After breakfast, continue toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. As you approach the Albertine Rift, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic. The park contains savannah grasslands, woodland, lakes, wetlands and crater areas, making it one of Uganda’s most diverse wildlife ecosystems.

After entering the park, enjoy your first game drive. Possible wildlife includes African elephants, Cape buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks and warthogs. Lions may occasionally be seen near concentrations of prey, while leopards and spotted hyenas are present but more difficult to locate.

Continue to your lodge for dinner.

Wake early for a game drive during the cooler morning hours. Wildlife is often particularly active around sunrise. Your guide will search suitable areas for elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and predators while also explaining the ecology of the park.

Return for breakfast or lunch before continuing to the Kazinga Channel. The afternoon boat safari is one of Queen Elizabeth National Park’s signature experiences. The channel connects Lake George and Lake Edward and supports large concentrations of aquatic wildlife.

Hippos are frequently observed in groups, while Nile crocodiles may be seen along the shoreline. Elephants and buffaloes sometimes approach the water to drink. Birdwatchers will also appreciate the diversity of species around the channel.

Return to your lodge after the cruise.

Today provides another opportunity to explore Queen Elizabeth National Park. A second game drive can produce very different wildlife encounters from the previous day because animal movements change constantly. Your driver-guide may explore alternative tracks or concentrate on species not yet encountered.

Depending on your interests, the afternoon can be used for another safari activity or relaxation at the lodge. The extra time makes the journey more rewarding for photographers and travelers who prefer spending meaningful time in each destination.

After breakfast, begin traveling toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Depending on the confirmed gorilla sector and road conditions, the route may pass through the Ishasha region of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Ishasha is internationally known for its unusual tree-climbing lions.

Although sightings cannot be guaranteed, the search itself adds interest to the transfer. The region also supports topis, elephants, buffaloes and Uganda kobs. Continue toward Bwindi.

The landscape changes dramatically as open savannah gives way to steep cultivated hills and dense forest. Arrive at your lodge near the correct trekking sector.

Today is the highlight of your 11 Day Best of Uganda Safari. Wake early, enjoy breakfast and transfer to the relevant Uganda Wildlife Authority briefing point. Park rangers explain trekking procedures, conservation rules and safe behavior around gorillas.

You will then be assigned to a habituated gorilla family and enter the forest with experienced guides and trackers. Bwindi’s terrain can be steep and muddy. Mountain gorillas move freely through the forest, so trekking duration varies.

Some groups may locate their family after a relatively short walk, while others may trek for several hours. Hiring a porter is highly recommended.

Enjoy a slower morning after the gorilla trek. Depending on your interests, an optional community visit, nature walk or birding excursion can be arranged. Community tourism provides insight into local life around the national park and the way conservation and tourism can support surrounding households.

Nature enthusiasts can spend more time exploring Bwindi’s remarkable biodiversity. The forest is home to numerous bird species, butterflies and plants in addition to mountain gorillas. Alternatively, spend the day relaxing at your lodge.

After breakfast, leave Bwindi and travel through southwestern Uganda’s scenic highlands. Depending on the customized itinerary, the day can include a lake or highland destination where you can relax after the gorilla experience. Enjoy terraced hills, rural communities and attractive mountain scenery along the route.

Arrive at your selected lodge in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

After breakfast, begin traveling toward central Uganda. Breaking the return journey into two days makes the safari far more comfortable than completing one extremely long transfer. Stop for lunch and refreshments.

Depending on routing, there may also be time for a cultural or scenic stop. Arrive at your final overnight lodge or hotel in the afternoon.

After breakfast, complete the final transfer toward Entebbe. Where flight timing permits, stop at the Equator if this was not done earlier in the journey. Continue to Entebbe International Airport for your international departure.

Your 11 Day Best of Uganda Safari ends after combining some of the country’s most memorable wildlife, landscapes and primate experiences.
