Bwindi is one of Uganda's most important protected areas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park protects a remarkable montane and lowland forest ecosystem that provides habitat for mountain gorillas as well as numerous other mammals, birds, butterflies and plant species.
For most travelers, staying at Nshongi Camp is primarily about positioning themselves conveniently for a gorilla trekking experience while enjoying the atmosphere of rural southwestern Uganda.
Travelers visiting Bwindi generally spend relatively little time in their rooms during the main trekking day, but comfortable accommodation remains important.
The trek can involve hours of hiking through thick vegetation and across steep, uneven terrain. After returning, most guests appreciate a warm shower, comfortable bed, good meal and quiet surroundings.
When booking, confirm whether you require a single, double, twin or family arrangement. Families traveling with children should also check age restrictions for gorilla trekking and ensure their accommodation configuration is suitable.
Facilities & Amenities
- On gorilla trekking day, guests should have a packed lunch available because there is no way to predict exactly how long they will remain in the forest. Drinking water is equally important.
- The trekking group may locate the gorillas after a comparatively short walk, or tracking may take much longer. Having adequate food and water means visitors are prepared for either situation.
- Dietary requirements should be communicated in advance, particularly when staying at smaller properties where ingredients may need to be sourced before guests arrive.
